IP Video Series, Part 2

The second video in a multi-part series on intellectual property is up! In it I discuss computers, copyright, and bittorrent. There is a lot of misunderstanding in the legal system when it comes to how torrents and computers work. I walk you through the download of a torrent (featuring the Three Stooges, none the less), show you what happens with the data, and explain why it may or may not be copyright infringement to download or even seed torrent content on the internet.

To date, I am unaware of any court cases involving prosecution for merely downloading movies/videos/music/etc online. Every case revolves around distribution of copyrighted material as a violation of section 106 of the Copyright Act. Bits, however, cannot be copyrighted. If bits are transferred but those bits in and of themselves do not result in anything covered under section 101 of the Copyright Act, has infringement really occurred? Hmmmmmmmmmm.............

Also, am I the first candidate to write, compile, and execute code on camera? I think so 🙂
